Young Beatrix Potter spent many of her childhood summers exploring the fields and paths of Perthshire, travelling as they did with the family pets – two young rabbits named Peter and Benjamin.
It was her own childhood adventures that helped fuel her inspiration for her famous adventurous young Peter Rabbit, with his own penchant for mischief and adventure.
Along with his loyal cousin, Benjamin Bunny, and Peter’s sisters – the very well-behaved bunnies, Flopsy, Mopsy and Cotton-tail – many aspects of her later stories found their spark in the young girl’s imagination during her summer strolls in the lanes of Perthshire.
For years, children have delighted to the tales of the cheeky Peter Rabbit, brave Benjamin Bunny, good Flopsy, Mopsy and Cotton-tail, accident-prone Mr. Jeremy Fisher, and hard-working Mrs. Tiggy-winkle.
At Birnam Arts, we are all set up to help fans of all ages explore the world of young Beatrix Potter, including our desks in a Victorian school room where you can see some of her drawings as she investigated the natural world, and explored ideas through her illustrations.
Children will love the traditional games and vintage toys, including building blocks and wooden trains. There’s also a range of interactive games and colouring in sheets for little ones, which change throughout the year.
Keep an eye out for fun family activities throughout the year that will ignite your imagination!

If you are in the area for a short visit, you can book your day tickets in advance through our website – they are valid for 12 months from date of purchase or if you would like to visit more often, our Annual Pass offers great value, allowing you to visit as many times as you like!
To help you visit the world of Beatrix Potter, we created our 'Friends of Beatrix Potter' Annual Pass for those who love the mischievous bunny.
Priced at £40 for 12 months from date of purchase, the annual pass admits 2 adults and up to 4 children (3-15 years) any time you’d like to visit the world of young Beatrix Potter. And if you bought a pass in 2020 or 2021, we are delighted to extend validity until the end of 2022, meaning you can visit anytime until the end of the year.
Annual Passes are available to purchase from our Gift Shop counter.
You can buy your Beatrix Potter day tickets online in advance of your visit or on the day of your visit from our Gift Shop.

There are two dedicated accessible car park spaces directly in front of the venue. There is a gentle slope from street level up to the accessible entrance.
Using the touch pad, enter via the large glass doors to the right of the main entrance.
There are two Accessible Toilets within the venue, one on each level.
There are ramps situated throughout the building to enable easy access from the Café to the Box Office and Shop, as well as on the first floor to go from the Gallery to the Meeting Room.
There is a lift between the ground level and first floor, however our lift is temporarily out-of-order!

This is a lovely light and welcoming building with a cafe and library during the day and some really excellent concerts and shows of all genres mostly in the evening. It's an intimate space but with capacity for several hundred people and tends to be competitively priced. It relies on volunteer support and is an excellent community hub.

Welcome to Birnam Arts, a boutique multi-purpose arts, conferencing and entertainment venue.
Pop in to the Foyer Cafe for breakfast, grab a delicious coffee with a selection of our homemade baking or enjoy a light lunch whilst browsing on the free WiFi. Wander upstairs to view the latest of our monthly art exhibitions before visiting the world of Beatrix Potter, or the Gift Shop to purchase a special gift for your loved ones or yourself!
I have enjoyed taking part in events such as Scots Opera before we came to live in the area. Since then we have enjoyed both attending events and the splendid cafe In the foyer. It is a brilliant example of a local/regional community arts initiative and must not be allowed to falter.

We had not planned to present a hybrid festival, however that changed when one of our main authors tested positive for Covid. I greatly appreciated how the team worked with us to pivot and present remotely in part, making full use of your enhanced video conferencing equipment. As a result, we were able to deliver quite complex events with several elements all showing on screen simultaneously. The audio-visual quality was excellent, and our audiences were delighted that these events could still go ahead, in spite of Covid. The author in question was really pleased that he could join us on screen and remarked that he had not been so well supported in this way at any other festival.
