Budapest Café Orchestra

24 May 2024

“… the finest purveyors of Eastern European gypsy music this side of a Lada scrap heap…” The Times

The Budapest Café Orchestra is a music-driven phenomenon, a specialist performance-entertainment outfit, enthralling audiences everywhere with their infectious energy, led by the celebrated jazz violin superstar, Christian Garrick.

Two of the country’s most revered international soloists are nestled at the heart of proceedings… accordionist exemplar, Eddie Hession, who’s accompanied the likes of Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Chris Rea, and Christian Garrick, whose CV boasts partnerships with Dame Cleo Laine & Sir John Dankworth and Nigel Kennedy, to name but a few.

One of Russia's most enigmatic and masterly musical exports, Adrian Zolotuhin, plays the sultan and a variety of stringed instruments, whilst veteran bass-man, Kelly Cantlon, lays down the bass notes – Kelly found fame in the late 60s as a Vagabond with northern soul sensations Jimmy James and the Vagabonds.

Not to be missed!

Star Star Star Star Star

We had not planned to present a hybrid festival, however that changed when one of our main authors tested positive for Covid. I greatly appreciated how the team worked with us to pivot and present remotely in part, making full use of your enhanced video conferencing equipment. As a result, we were able to deliver quite complex events with several elements all showing on screen simultaneously. The audio-visual quality was excellent, and our audiences were delighted that these events could still go ahead, in spite of Covid. The author in question was really pleased that he could join us on screen and remarked that he had not been so well supported in this way at any other festival.
