Join exhibiting artist and storyteller Claire Hewitt as she guides participants through how to make their own felted story pouch and connect with their wilder selves.
Claire Hewitt is a professional storyteller and artist living in Highland Perthshire. For forty years she has been involved in gathering and inspiring local communities’ connection to their natural environment, and to one another, through the arts. For the last 20 years this has been through the carrying stream of the oral tradition, rooted in the landscape of Perthshire. She comments:
“My own artistic practice as a Storyteller has been enriched, nourished and supported manifold by this incredibly diverse community, human and wild, which stretches itself along the River Tay.”
Her practice over the years has developed from a Fine Artist & Community Artist, training as an Art Therapist, to working as a freelance Storyteller in Scotland and overseas in Africa, Japan, Finland, France, Norway, Estonia, Eastern Europe, Dubai, and India. Claire has been involved in projects with Historic Scotland; Pamis Sensory Storytelling Resources; RSGS; Plant-life Scotland; Scottish Poetry Library and Storytelling Centre; Scottish Forestry Commission and many Community based Storytelling projects, keeping the Oral tradition a living tradition; ‘Eye to eye, mind to mind and heart to heart.’

Welcome to Birnam Arts, a boutique multi-purpose arts, conferencing and entertainment venue.
Pop in to the Foyer Cafe for breakfast, grab a delicious coffee with a selection of our homemade baking or enjoy a light lunch whilst browsing on the free WiFi. Wander upstairs to view the latest of our monthly art exhibitions before visiting the world of Beatrix Potter, or the Gift Shop to purchase a special gift for your loved ones or yourself!
We had not planned to present a hybrid festival, however that changed when one of our main authors tested positive for Covid. I greatly appreciated how the team worked with us to pivot and present remotely in part, making full use of your enhanced video conferencing equipment. As a result, we were able to deliver quite complex events with several elements all showing on screen simultaneously. The audio-visual quality was excellent, and our audiences were delighted that these events could still go ahead, in spite of Covid. The author in question was really pleased that he could join us on screen and remarked that he had not been so well supported in this way at any other festival.

Birnam Arts has made such a difference to Birnam since its redevelopment 20 years ago, and attracts an incredible variety of high-quality arts performers. It's also a great Community space. We're very happy to make a contribution to such an asset.
