Kammer Philharmonie - Europa

Fri 15 May

Doors open 19:30

One of Europe’s top chamber orchestras, known for their vibrant, musician-led performances and acclaimed interpretations of Beethoven, Haydn, and Mozart. With standout appearances at the BBC Proms and major European festivals, and winner of Gramophone’s Orchestra of the Year 2023, they bring electrifying energy and precision to every stage.

We’re thrilled to welcome them live at Birnam Arts — don’t miss this world-class experience!

One of Europe’s leading chamber orchestras, The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen is known for its electrifying, collaborative performances. Founded in 1980 by a group of music students, the orchestra remains musician-led, combining artistic excellence with bold, entrepreneurial spirit.

Now based in Bremen’s historic Stadtwaage, the ensemble performs internationally and is celebrated for its dynamic interpretations, especially of Beethoven, Haydn, and Mozart. Under the artistic direction of Paavo Järvi since 2004, the orchestra has held residencies at major festivals including the Bremen Music Festival, Beethovenfest Bonn, and Kissinger Sommer.

The orchestra regularly tours prestigious venues across the European concert circuit, with acclaimed performances at the BBC Proms, Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Aix-en-Provence Easter Festival, and Tokyo Opera City. Their thrilling Proms debut and follow-up appearances earned glowing praise for their intimate yet dynamic sound, interactive programming, and distinctive interpretations.

Winners of Gramophone’s Orchestra of the Year 2023, they are critically celebrated for their bold, precision-led performances, “contagious vitality,” and award-winning recordings on labels including Deutsche Grammophon, EMI Classics, and PENTATONE.

We are delighted to welcome the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen to Birnam Arts for a special performance — an unmissable opportunity to experience this world-class orchestra live in our venue.

We had not planned to present a hybrid festival, however that changed when one of our main authors tested positive for Covid. I greatly appreciated how the team worked with us to pivot and present remotely in part, making full use of your enhanced video conferencing equipment. As a result, we were able to deliver quite complex events with several elements all showing on screen simultaneously. The audio-visual quality was excellent, and our audiences were delighted that these events could still go ahead, in spite of Covid. The author in question was really pleased that he could join us on screen and remarked that he had not been so well supported in this way at any other festival.
