This session will draw inspiration from the critters of Edward Lear’s weird and wonderful nonsense poems. Working with willow, tissue paper and card, we will create ridiculous creature sculptures with light up noses. Our lanterns will be decorated with colour and magical features. Once dry these can be taken away and used by participants to light their way around as the daylight fades. The session will start with reading a poem together before jumping into our creative tasks where children will be encouraged to get as imaginative and silly as possible with their creations, with an emphasis on play throughout.
This project is about offering affordable access to the arts and providing opportunity to try high-quality and specialist artistic approaches from professional artists. The actual cost per session is much higher than the given costs as we feel it is important to pay tutors according to Scottish Artist Union rates and provide access to quality materials and experiences. To ensure our holiday sessions are affordable during the school holidays, Birnam Arts subsidises this with further support from Creative Scotland.
We are offering the sessions on a Sliding Scale framework (thanks to funding from Creative Scotland). Please be honest and pay what you can afford.
