Formed in 2002, the Scottish National Youth Jazz Orchestra gives Scotland’s best young jazz talents a grounding in the work of jazz masters from Ellington to Corea, Basie to Shorter, and from Miles to Metheny: SNYJO has advanced the musicianship of over 140 young players.
Past members include winners of the Scottish Album of the Year Award, the BBC Young Jazz Musician title and the Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year competition, having also registered successes in the Scottish Jazz Awards, the Jazz FM Awards, and nominations in the Mercury Prize. The orchestra’s albums have won praise internationally and regularly feature in radio programmes across the world, and the class of 2026/27 continues to impress audiences with individual and collective prowess, giving performances that guarantee excitement, creativity and grooves to make you move.

The comfortable and aesthetically pleasing cafe seating attracted praise and provided ideal places for small groups to gather at the tables, enjoying excellent food and drinks! Visitors remarked upon your new signage, now so much easier to navigate to the various rooms within the venue.

Wander upstairs to view the latest of our monthly art exhibitions before visiting the world of Beatrix Potter, or the Gift Shop to purchase a special gift for your loved ones or yourself!
Perthshire is so lucky to benefit from such an amazing community, arts and performance venue. I have so many great memories of attending various performances and parties at Birnam Arts! Hoping to attend many more to come! Birnam Arts has a place in many peoples hearts and is an essential community resource.
