The Atholl Cailleachs

7 March 2026

Atholl Cailleachs – A celebration for International Women’s Day through song, words, music and dance.

Presented by Fiona Ritchie with special guest performances by Scots singer/songwriter Beth Malcolm, and, visiting poet Elizabeth Kostova from Asheville, North Carolina.

“Cailleachs are women of knowledge and skill within a community – the Dunkeld & Birnam area is bubbling over with talented professional female performers, so what better was to celebrate International Women’s Day than to showcase their skills…”

Artists’ proceeds will be donated to Linda’s Ladies and Perthshire Women’s Aid

"Recently voted Scots Singer of the Year in the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards, Beth Malcolm is a passionately open-hearted singer. Her second album is an extraordinary, lavishly produced and at times painfully honest coming of age narrative, as she retraces her sometimes rocky road to fulfilment. Between spoken-word links, she’s accompanied by a host of musicians, including guitarist and producer Dorian Cloudsley, fiddler Eryn Rae, pianist Alan Benzie, drummer Mark Scobie and the strings of the Sorcha Quartet. Songs range from the yearning of Meet Me By the Goretree, through the disillusionment of Ghosted and the wry realisation of Rolling Stone. There’s political enlightenment in her impassioned, solo rendition of The Worker’s Song before, ultimately, I Am Bound and The Mountain herald a powerful re-embracing of heritage and the natural world."
Jim Gilchrist - The Scotsman

This is a lovely light and welcoming building with a cafe and library during the day and some really excellent concerts and shows of all genres mostly in the evening. It's an intimate space but with capacity for several hundred people and tends to be competitively priced. It relies on volunteer support and is an excellent community hub.
