A superb concert of music and improvisation by the talented TSYJO, showcasing music by Miles, Ella, Piazzolla, Gillespie, Count Basie and Duke Ellington, plus a new composition by Jazzmeia Horn starring our singer Laura Oghagbon.
The Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra has become synonymous with energetic performances that channel the creativity and excitement of big-band jazz, celebrating legendary jazz composers.
Since Tommy Smith formed the youth orchestra in 2002 to create a free educational opportunity for Scotland's best young jazz musicians, it has forged over 125 masterful young musicians, many of them acclaimed award winners who have gone on to have successful national and international careers.
Join us on Sunday the 28th of April to hear an extraordinary concert of outstanding music and improvisation by the skilful TSYJO and our special guests, Michael Owers, and Ryan Quigley.

We had not planned to present a hybrid festival, however that changed when one of our main authors tested positive for Covid. I greatly appreciated how the team worked with us to pivot and present remotely in part, making full use of your enhanced video conferencing equipment. As a result, we were able to deliver quite complex events with several elements all showing on screen simultaneously. The audio-visual quality was excellent, and our audiences were delighted that these events could still go ahead, in spite of Covid. The author in question was really pleased that he could join us on screen and remarked that he had not been so well supported in this way at any other festival.

Wander upstairs to view the latest of our monthly art exhibitions before visiting the world of Beatrix Potter, or the Gift Shop to purchase a special gift for your loved ones or yourself!
Birnam Arts has made such a difference to Birnam since its redevelopment 20 years ago, and attracts an incredible variety of high-quality arts performers. It's also a great Community space. We're very happy to make a contribution to such an asset.

Lovely wee cafe with amazing service. Been here 3 times now and always notice how friendly and upbeat the staff are. The coffee and cake is top notch also. Will definitely be back the next time I head to Dunkeld!
