Jennifer MacLean’s work ranges from her distinctive watercolour paintings to her unique 'organic wall designs' - woven with her own hand spun and naturally dyed wool. Her work derives its inspiration from nature and nature's textures - her subject matter tends to be 'things enduring', (stones, old buildings, vegetation, landscape…), and her colour is strong and vital. Above all the feeling one gets from MacLean's work is of her genuine and absorbing love of what she is doing.

About the artist

Jennifer was born in Sydney, Australia, in 1952. A student of the University of Sydney she received her Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Fine Arts in 1972. After teaching high school art in Adelaide, South Australia for four years, Jennifer travelled extensively in South America, living for some time in Northern Brazil. After spending further time in Spain and Portugal, she took up a position of Community Arts Organiser at the Norwich Arts Centre, Norfolk, England.

Over the years Jennifer has exhibited in Brazil, Holland, Germany, England, Scotland and Australia. This 2022 exhibition “55 years of Watercolour and Weaving” is a broad selection of watercolours and weavings and includes works that have not been viewed before.

Star Star Star Star Star

We had not planned to present a hybrid festival, however that changed when one of our main authors tested positive for Covid. I greatly appreciated how the team worked with us to pivot and present remotely in part, making full use of your enhanced video conferencing equipment. As a result, we were able to deliver quite complex events with several elements all showing on screen simultaneously. The audio-visual quality was excellent, and our audiences were delighted that these events could still go ahead, in spite of Covid. The author in question was really pleased that he could join us on screen and remarked that he had not been so well supported in this way at any other festival.
