Role and Responsibilities
Main Purpose of Post:
This role will function to lead, develop and expand upon the existing volunteer scheme which has circa 30 volunteers, to other areas across Birnam Arts.
Key Objectives:
- To increase our pool of volunteers from 30 to circa 50
- To increase the diversity of our volunteers, including attracting young volunteers as well as volunteers across the remote and semi-rural communities that we serve
- To widen the valued impact of volunteers across the organisation to areas such as fundraising, marketing, technical (sound and light), reception and ticketing, building maintenance, and arts and community event support
- To ensure our valued volunteers are celebrated for the vital role they play in the organisation
Key Tasks:
- Recruiting and onboarding new volunteers as appropriate
- Taking inspiration from as well as supporting our current shop and exhibition volunteer scheme
- Raising the profile of volunteering at BA via social media and other routes to market and communities
- Identifying areas for development and improvement as well as education such as first aid or EDI training.
- Supporting as and where appropriate the new formed Friends of Birnam Arts fundraising group
- Establish value and benefits of volunteering at Birnam Arts, and communicating these benefits as appropriate
- Any other duties that may be required to support the efficient and effective operation of volunteering at Birnam Arts.
Qualifications/Education Requirements and preferred skills
- Excellent numeric, verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Proficiency in IT software systems desirable, but not essential
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary for interacting with volunteers, staff, the public and other arts organisations
This is a fixed term (18 months) freelance postion, starting in early October.
