Intro to Intaglio Printmaking Workshop
Join Sheila Roberts on Saturday 7th February (10:30-12:30) to discover the art of intaglio printmaking with accessible, recycled materials. Exhibiting artist Sheila Roberts will guide you through each step of the process—from drawing and impressing your designs on Tetra Pak plates to inking, wiping, and roll printing with precision using a pasta maker.
You’ll gain hands-on experience in creating tone and texture through line work and cross-hatching, learn how to ink and wipe plates while keeping fine details sharp, and master the technique of printing on damp paper for rich, even impressions. The session begins with an introduction to Sheila’s own practice and a walk through our current exhibition to explore printmaking inspiration, before moving into a supportive, studio-style environment where you can develop your own artistic voice.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with your own handmade prints to dry, title, and sign at home—a perfect blend of skill-building, creativity, and sustainable art-making, suitable for beginners and enthusiasts alike.
