Two of Scotland’s foremost traditional musicians, Rachel Newton and Lauren MacColl, share musical tales inspired by and in remembrance of real women persecuted and tried as witches.

"Beautiful – dare one say spellbinding" The Scotsman

Rachel Newton (harp, vocals) and Lauren MacColl (fiddle) - Scots Trad Awards 'Composers of the Year' 2022. With guests Margaret Bennett (Gaelic song) and Morag Anderson (poetry). Two of Scotland’s foremost traditional musicians, Rachel Newton and Lauren MacColl, share musical tales inspired by and in remembrance of real women persecuted and tried as witches. With stories of traditions and beliefs from Shetland to the Solway, they explore characters from folk tales and mythology enshrined in our oral culture. This newly composed music, with accompanying visuals by Alison Piper, gives voice to the voiceless and brings past and present together.

Birnam Arts has made such a difference to Birnam since its redevelopment 20 years ago, and attracts an incredible variety of high-quality arts performers. It's also a great Community space. We're very happy to make a contribution to such an asset.
