Join bestselling author Fiona Valpy as she sits down with Martin Edwards and Douglas Skelton to discuss crime writing.

Together, Fiona Valpy, Martin Edwards and Doug Skelton will discuss crime writing and what it means to create fiction and non-fiction in this genre.

Martin Edwards is a member of the 'Murder Squad' collective of crime writers, and became the longest-serving Chair of the Crime Writers’ Association (CWA) since its founder John Creasey. In 2015, he was elected eighth President of the Detection Club; his predecessors include G.K. Chesterton, Dorothy L. Sayers, and Agatha Christie. He is Archivist of the CWA and of the Detection Club, and serves as a consultant to the British Library’s Crime Classics. His latest installment of the Lake District Mysteries,'The Crooked Shore' is out now.

Douglas Skelton is a crime writer who specialises in fiction and non-fiction from the darker side of ourworld. His non-fiction charts the true-life exploits of murderers, criminals and cause celebres. The settings for his crime fiction range from the tough street of Glasgow to the wildness of the Scottish Highlands.

Chair: Fiona Valpy is a bestselling author of Contemporary and Historical Fiction whose books have been translated into more than twenty languages. She lives in Dunkeld and is a Patron of the Birnam Book Festival.

Star Star Star Star Star

The Birnam Book Festival Committee were so pleased with how the new facilities in the Auditorium added to an extremely professionally presented event. The lighting allowed us to create staging to match the country’s leading book festival events, such as we’ve seen in Edinburgh.
