The Birnam Book Festival is back at Birnam Arts to celebrate books, music and poetry.
Book Festival Patron and bestselling author Fiona Valpy welcomes us to this special evening event, presenting:
Professor Devi Sridhar: ‘Preventable: How A Pandemic Changed TheWorld & How to Stop The Next One’. Devi Shridar is Professor and Chair of Public Health at University of Edinburgh, and member of Scottish Government Covid-19 advisory group. In Preventable she highlights lessons learned from outbreaks past and present in a narrative that traces the COVID-19 pandemic - including her personal experience as ascientist - and sets out a vision for how we can better protect ourselves from the inevitable health crisesto come.
Chair: Jess Pepper, independent public affairs consultant, climate advocate, andfounder/Director of Climate Café. Jess is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Scottish Geographical Socety.
And introducing: Kate Leiper, Illustrator in Residence
Kate is an Edinburgh-based illustrator and artist, fascinated by myths and folklore and inspired by animals and nature. You can see her magical work in ‘An Illustrated Treasury of Scottish Folk and Fairy Tales’ and ‘An Illustrated Treasury of Scottish Mythical Creatures’. Kate will be with us throughout the Birnam Book Festival for presentations and community activity.
