What is clear when speaking with mum Debbie of young crowdfunding champion Rose Cave is that the love for Birnam Arts is a family affair. Since arriving into the area from Edinburgh, Birnam Arts has almost been a home away from home for both parents and children.
It seems that Rose has done it all at Birnam Arts. She has time spent in the Beatrix Potter exhibition playing with Peter Rabbit and his friends, searched for her next book to read in the library, enjoyed ballet classes, and laughed with friends over a piece of cake and mug of hot chocolate.
The late 2021 challenge Rose has set for herself is to complete three progressively harder climbs with her father and her Uncle Paddy, a rock climbing legend in his own right.
Importantly, Rose set a fundraising target and physical challenges that would really push her. As she wrote on her Crowdfunder page, “To raise money I am going to do three climbs this winter, each one will be harder than the last and my third and final climb will be on snow and ice. I haven’t actually done much proper climbing at all before so this is actually quite a big challenge! I will use climbing gear to scramble and climb up the hills with the help of my mountain guide and climbing instructor Uncle Paddy."
There is no doubt that Rose is driven, or that she has some wonderful support. By the start of December, Rose’s drive to raise funds to support our visual arts studio was at 235% of her original target, with still a few weeks left in her original timeframe.
In part, older brother Dan spent one weekend creating treats to take to school for a fundraising bake sale while younger brother Charlie made the promotional signs. Their efforts helped push Rose’s challenge over her £1000 stretch goal.
The photos and video have been shared by the family. Dad Andrew is so proud of his daughter, not only for considering and creating the challenge, but for really pushing herself through the pain.
As part of our new website and as we celebrate the local lives around us, we’ve created a new hashtag #BIRNAM_heARTS.
