Join silversmith Sarah Cave in a 6 week jewellery making course at Birnam Arts. Starting with base metal you will learn how to cut, shape, texture and solder the metal and make a rub over setting to hold a stone, before then going on to make a finished silver stone set pendant of your own design. These classes are suitable for beginners or those wanting to improve their jewellery making skills.
The classes will be held on a Tuesday evening at Birnam Arts, in the Visual Arts studio, from 6:30 – 8:30pm (for 6 weeks) starting on the 23rd May, with the last session on 27th June 2023.
Sarah trained at Edinburgh College of Art and worked as a silversmith before setting up her own studio/workshop space in Blairgowrie. Now with over 20 years’ experience Sarah designs and makes a range of "hand raised" silverware and jewellery, as well as teaching the technique of hand raising through her classes.
Here at Birnam Arts we are committed to making the arts as accessible as possible and in line with this we are offering this course on a sliding scale framework of £80 (tier 1) / £120 (tier 2) / £180 (tier 3). Please be honest and pay what you can afford.

Base metals are supplied to get you started. Students will have the opportunity to purchase and work with their own precious materials. You will be advised of any additional materials that you might require, based on how your personal project develops.
