Alan Riach on Hugh MacDiarmid

Thu 27 Jan
19:00pm - 21:00
Doors open 19:00

Join Alan Riach as he celebrates the life of Hugh MacDiarmid one of Scotland’s greatest poets of the twentieth century.

Description

Alan Riach, Professor of Scottish Literature at Glasgow University, will be highlighting the importance of Hugh’s home Brownsbank Cottage, Biggar, South Lanarkshire, where he lived from 1952 until his death in 1978.

MacDiarmid’s Brownsbank charity took ownership of the cottage in 2016 with the aim of conserving the contents exactly as when Hugh MacDiarmid last laid down his pen.

A Drunk Man Looks at the Thistle

To be yersel’s - and to mak’ that worth bein’,
