Lacunas Music Society

Sat 28 Jun
20:00 - 22:00
Doors open 19:30

A trio of leading Scottish talent have come together to create new band Lacunas Music Society.

love loss data is their inaugural performance, blending beautiful songs and evocative music with spoken word and arresting visuals, reflecting on love, life, hopes and dreams, balanced against an insistently data-driven world.

Actress Blythe Duff – best known for her role as Jackie Reid in the long running crime show Taggart – has joined with acclaimed singer-songwriter Yvonne Lyon – renowned across the country for her musicianship – and award-winning film and TV composer, Malcolm Lindsay. The band also comprises Jon Hargreaves – composer, conductor, and keyboard player extraordinaire, and Cameron Maxwell – leading bass player and master of the low frequencies

The need to record and remember are essential to being human, but love and loss are not resolved by data points and algorithms.

The band:

Malcolm Lindsay brought the band together having worked with Yvonne Lyon previously and knowing Blythe Duff through his scoring of the final season of Taggart. As a composer, producer and musician, his work has encompassed scores for prime-time telly and leading independent films, as well as contemporary classical music, jazz and pop. He’s worked with many of Scotland’s leading musicians and bands.

Yvonne Lyon is among the UK's brightest and best singer/songwriters. A talented piano player, guitarist and singer, she has an established following for her primarily acoustic folk music sound, which has seen her collaborate with the likes of Boo Hewerdine, and support others such as Eddi Reader, Patty Griffin, Karine Polwart and Beth Neilsen Chapman. She is a familiar voice on the airwaves, taking part in many live sessions on Radio Two.

Blythe Duff is an acclaimed, award-winning actress, who has performed extensively in the UK and internationally. Bringing her songstress skills to the fore is a newer departure, and one she is relishing as part of Lacunas Music Society.

Jon Hargreaves is a as a composer, arranger and conductor whose work encompasses artistic directorships and conducting across new music, orchestral repertoire, and opera. He was the founding Co-Artistic Director of Glasgow's Nevis Ensemble, and since 2023, he has conducted the Film Composers Lab at the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

Cameron Maxwell is a leading musician whose versatility sees him play with a number of Scottish bands, including State Broadcasters and Upturned Boats, perform for soundtrack recording, and accompany performers such as established, award-winning entertainer Reuben Kaye in his latest comedy and musical cabaret.

The performance:

A showcase a range of beautiful songs and evocative music through love loss data.  With spoken word and arresting visuals, reflecting on love, life, hopes and dreams, balanced against an insistently data-driven world.

The need to record and remember are essential to being human, but love and loss are not resolved by data points and algorithms.
